REACTION - Cold Iron Studios actually uses the “developer writes a block of text on a social account” approach to announce something jolly
It’s immediately nerve-wracking when dev teams release statements on Twitter / X / Elon’s echo chamber, because when you scroll through and notice that block of colour and a lot of words, the immediate assumption is a cool game has been cancelled, someone beloved has passed away, and / or the studio is closing its doors. So Cold Iron’s confirmation that Aliens: Fireteam Elite has done the business and is leading to more good things is a refreshing slice of positivity.
The team have revealed some shifting leadership and promotions, as well as talk of another project that screams “sequel”. Although nothing is explicitly confirmed, its a good bet that more licensed efforts are on the brew. Fireteam Elite ticked the “AA”, swimming in 7’s boxes that I’m personally a huge fan of, and as a co-op shooter, it was great to get into rotation.
We’re hardly struggling for these kinds of experiences, but its pleasing to hear that they continue to find an audience, and that a team like Cold Iron Studios has secured their future.
TARPS?
At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
