REACTION - Halo ODST crossing over with Helldivers 2 makes a world of sense

Easy win, Helldiver.

The walls are officially crumbling, and jolliness has won the day. Halo 3: ODST is getting a Legendary Warbond in Helldivers 2. The Assault Rifle, Shotgun, and Pistol are making the jump, along with a bunch of cosmetics that are dreams made real. Thankfully, much like the previous Helghast tie in with Killzone, it makes thematic sense and certainly doesn’t appear out of place within Arrowhead’s world.

Furthermore, this opens the door wide open for other crossovers from Microsoft IP, so long as they’re implemented with similar care and restraint. I could absolutely imagine a Gears of War tie-in with Locust being added as an enemy faction variant, or even something like State of Decay 3 which seems tailor made for this kind of experience.

This is clearly a precursor to Halo making a more meaningful leap to PlayStation, and perhaps a way for Sony to gauge sentiment in the run up to an inevitable port of the Master Chief Collection or Infinite. After the somewhat muted response to the last couple of installments, the timing couldn’t be better for Microsoft to embrace this new multiplatform future.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
