Power ball.

It has been brewing for a hot minute , but thankfully Nintendo have shown their hand and the newly subtitled Metroid Prime 4 has gameplay in the wild. While nice to see Beyond pop up as the one more thing, we couldn’t help but ponder if this new instalment would be better served as a launch title for Nintendo’s next hardware.

While this very much appears to be an iterative sequel, the series has a rich history of leveraging the power of whatever hardware it releases on; the two GameCube versions were no slouches in the visual department. There is a distinct possibility that we may be dealing with a Twilight Princess / Breath of the Wild situation here, where a current and next gen version both launching within a tight window.

Whatever the case, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is shaping up to be a safe but welcome sequel that we’re still perplexed has taken this long to see the light of day. Given that it doesn’t appear at first glance to be much of a departure, one wonders why it has been under wraps for all this time. But if it leads to a better end product, then let it cook!

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
