REACTION - Modern Warfare 2’s early Single Player release is a sensible call

Calm before the Warzone.

Debates over the rising cost of AAA games and the possible creative stagnation of the series itself aside, you’ve got to hand it to Activision for splitting off Modern Warfare 2’s single player campaign and releasing it early as a pre-order bonus. With all the inevitable focus on multiplayer and the free to play sequel to Warzone, it gives the often overlooked COD campaign a chance to shine.

Early reports are extremely positive (we’ll have a review up soon), with a lot of shared sentiment pointing to the visual fidelity and complexity of set piece scripted moments. On paper, it sounds great, but it’s the release strategy that has really caught our attention.

I can’t remember the last time I was truly invested in a Call of Duty campaign (ironically, probably Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare!), so it’s nice to see them continue to make an effort and try something new.
