Although this does very little to take the abhorrent sting out of Nintendo’s removal of the 3D All Stars Collection, it is with genuine surprise that, yes, hold on to your pants… a selection of Nintendo exclusives are currently in a digital sale! We truly live in strange times. Although I’m not knocking it, my surprise is definitely informed by a broader problem with their eShop pricing.

In an era of gaming more digital than ever, and with a hybrid console that thrives on the go when its games are accessed without needing to swap fiddly cartridges, it continues to astound me that the downloadable versions of Ninty’s first party slate remain at £50. Sometimes years after their original release! I find it extremely hard to justify, especially when a lot of these games are ports from the Wii U era.

It’s a frustrating approach, but there’s a glimmer of hope. The current “big multiplayer sale” features 33% off Splatoon 2, Super Mario Party, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, among many other third party releases. Granted, “SMBUD” is indeed a Wii U port, but still… progress! Of a sort…
