When it comes to current gen upgrades of last gen titles, we’ve seen wildly divergent approaches. Microsoft’s Smart Delivery automatically downloads the correct version for free depending on your hardware, Sony sometimes does the same thing (without dramatic branding), while third parties are a mix of “ahh it’s easy breezy” and “cough up the doshins, seeeee”.

With Ghost of Tsushima’s upcoming Director’s Cut (a completely nonsensical subtitle given that, by definition, this new version isn’t restoring cut content), Sony are (understandably) charging for access to all the new goodness. There’s a pretty hefty sounding expansion, and a bunch of digital goodies.

But for those folks who’ve already nabbed the Director’s Cut (eurgh) on PS4, and want to upgrade to the PS5 version to take advantage of haptic feedback, better performance, and 3D audio, you still have to pay. £9 to be precise. This feels entirely unnecessary, and a bit of a dick move to fans who invest in the Director’s Cut early but perhaps can’t get hold of a PS5 just yet.

It’s reminiscent of 505 Games’ handling of the Control Ultimate Edition, and it sucks.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
