REACTION - A current gen only, co-op powered Darksiders 4 is a best case scenario sequel

Some publishers have functional ear lobes and listen to the people. THQ appears to be one of them. During a recent showcase, Darksiders 4 was given a thrilling (albeit brief) tease heralding the return of a franchise that has occupied a well earned place in amongst the triple A action RPG’s of the world. We couldn’t be happier to see this franchise be given another shot, and clearly the prior entries have moved the needle enough to justify the investment.
Furthermore, four player online co-op (with split screen support also rumoured) is a massive win; the Genesis spinoff dipped a toe in shared campaign jolliness, so it’s nice to see that continue here. The narrative is literally tailored made for multiplayer, and having these characters come together for an epic follow up is exactly what the Horseman ordered.
Series X/S, PS5, and PC are the only platforms confirmed so far, although the Switch did get ports of all four previous titles so a Switch 2 version down the line is a reasonably safe bet. No release window but I’d say Late 2026 is what we’re looking at here. We’ll have more on Darksiders 4 in the weeks and months ahead.
TARPS?
At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
