SHOUT OUT - Despite being late to the party, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle has been a pleasant surprise

Nicely done, Doctor Jones.

NOTE: Shout Out’s are not sponsored content. They’re games, developers, individuals, or issues that we want to highlight and share purely out of interest.

As the Summer months arrive and we can make a dent in our patented forever backlog, it felt like long past time for us to dip in to MachineGames’ take on a classic. Leveraging their first person Nazi slapping experience from Wolfenstein made them a logical fit, and Troy Baker’s performance as the titular lead grounds the whole experience with an immediately faithful performance. It’s smooth as butter from the opening moments, and made with such a clear affinity for the source material that we couldn’t help but be enamoured almost immediately.

It’s not the most bombastic of starts for a big Triple A action adaptation, but in many respects this does Indy a favour; he was never about gunning down the hordes. His intellect and “barely making that ledge” traversal are what makes the character so endearing, and the largely first person viewpoint certainly hammers that home.

We’re only a couple hours in at this point, but we thought it would be appropriate to give them a tip of the fedora and a crack of the whip to acknowledge what a bang up job MachineGames have done. There’s DLC on the way, and if LucasFilm Games have any sense, they’ll give these devs the keys to the kingdom for future installments.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
