REACTION - The Dead Space Remake’s Dialogue Is Altered By Player State, And We’re Here For It

Be the Director.

Although it’s most likely a directorial nightmare for whoever is handling this aspect of its production, EA Motive’s Dead Space Remake is nonetheless featuring line readings that are affected by the players current health status. This is a really neat, dynamic feature that takes the addition of fully voiced dialogue, which wasn’t present in the original game, and elevates it to a point beyond what any reasonable human could have anticipated.

It’s an audaciously complex feature, revealed as part of a live stream (thanks to IGN for the summary) that also confirmed an Early 2023 release window for the game. I love the attention to detail here, with Issac sounding particularly distressed depending on if he has taken significant damage.

This could quite easily have been a by the numbers glow up of the original, bumping resolution and performance but essentially keeping the core experience identical. I think it’s great to celebrate devs willing to go all in and do it right, and although there’s a lot we haven’t seen yet, this kind of decision making bodes well for its prospects.
