REACTION - Helldivers 2 going to Xbox is a desperately needed win

The walls are crumbling, and everyone wins. Arrowhead have announced that Helldivers 2 is going to fight for a different shade of democracy as an Xbox port is imminent. This is a victory for bug squashers in camp green as full crossplay is confirmed and jolliness with your squad is all but assured. It didn't seem like this day would ever come, but given the all too coincidental shared launch date with a certain Gears of War Reloaded, there's every likelihood this was a tit for tat deal that gave Sony the chance to test the waters as a third party publisher.

Lets not forget, for all of Xbox's mismanaged first party infrastructure and its tone deaf messaging, Sony aren't in a position to solely plop ticks in the win column. Concord was an unprecedented failure, Deviation Games is no more, and The Last of Us online was binned. With rumours of an unannounced Twisted Metal reboot and a God of War title getting shelved, as well as confirmation that Bend Studios also saw a title evaporate, this shows that despite their market strength, they're not immune to the current state of the industry.

But Xbox are at the forefront of the bad news right now, and rightly so. They have shown a complete lack of reasonable oversight and it has cost over 9000 people their livlihood. Anything right now that vaguely resembles a course correct towards positivity is a much needed win. Helldivers 2 is a fantastic game, and one that deserves the second wind inevitably generated by welcoming a whole new community of players. Suit up Helldiver.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
