REACTION - We’re Optimistic About Star Trek: Resurgence

Game reveals are a risky business, especially given the multitude of potential approaches. CG trailer, vertical slice, passion-less press release; there’s a whole bunch of different ways for devs to let the world know about their next big thing. Star Trek: Resurgence was announced at last years Game Awards, and although conceptually intriguing, the reveal was a bit ropey.

The animations were quite stiff, and the UI / overall polish was clearly still being worked on. But the idea of a narrative, choose your dialogue adventure set post The Next Generation from a new studio comprised of former Telltale devs is a pretty dream scenario for this Riker’s Beard wielding Trek fan.

IGN have shared new gameplay footage as part of their “IGN First” exclusive series, and things are looking noticeably better. The voice acting in particular was very strong, especially whomever they’ve hired to approximate a solid Leonard Nimoy cadence, and our enthusiasm has been renewed. We’ll be following this one closely, and look forward to seeing more.
