SHOUT OUT - The Triple-i Initiative Showcase is a fantastic way for smaller devs to control their destiny

Smarty pants.

NOTE: thatHITBOX Shout Out’s are not sponsored content. They’re games, developers, individuals, or issues that we want to highlight and share purely out of interest.

At a time when games industry job security has never felt more precarious or controlled by shareholding overlords, here comes a bunch of independent developers who have formed an advertising coalition of sorts to share the scoop on their next projects. The Triple-i Initiative Showcase is quite literally built from the ground up to be delivered on their terms, and it’s a wonderful idea.

They’re making it clear that there’s “no ads, no extra fluff - just games beamed straight into your eyeballs”. This is absolutely the best approach. As much as the big publishers try to make room for an indie montage or quick fire reveals in their own streaming events, there never seems to be enough time to give them room to breathe alongside bigger budget or more well established IP.

Considering the ambiguity often associated with high profile studio acquisitions, not to mention the run of closures and layoffs plaguing over reaching and bloated publishers, there’s a refreshingly straightforward cadence to Triple-i’s concept. Bottom line: if you’re a fan of Focus Entertainment, tinyBuild, and approximately 30 other indie teams, then you’ll be in for a treat.

It’s due to go live on Wednesday 10th April at 6pm BST.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
