REACTION - EA’s three game Marvel deal is a welcome U-turn on their approach to single player
Most of us will remember that misguided Tweet from EA’s official account: “They're a 10 but they only like playing single-player games”, which followed a run of poor decision making related to microtransactions (Dead Space 3) and loot boxes (Battlefront 2). It was an odd misstep at a time when positive sentiment for them was in short supply.
The reveal of a multi game partnership with Marvel, off the back of the barnstorming Jedi: Fallen Order, the recently revealed sequel, and a remake of Dead Space (get in there!) shows that the course has slowly (but crucially) been corrected. We know that one of these titles is an EA Motive developed Iron Man game which interestingly, much like The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, will create its own canon and story based on the source material instead of being shoehorned in to the MCU.
They’ve mapped out an encouraging future, and although there hasn’t been any inkling about what the other two games might be (give Troy Baker his dream Daredevil project!), there is a lot to be excited about here.
