REACTION - Steam Deck Has A Stupid Name But Huge Potential

So after all those “leaks” and insider scoops about a potential Switch Pro, in swings Valve with a “hold my portable” moment. The Steam Deck is dropping at the end of the year, with demand already high and estimated delivery for any new (at time of writing) pre-orders now expected in 2022.

Although it sounds like a place to get a nice sauna, Steam Deck is a smart play. Capable hardware, good pricing, and anti scalper moves (yes!) are a winning combo. I have reservations about the lack of speedy storage, but expandable SD card support helps with that. The best part is the open nature of the OS, creating opportunities to install Windows and other operating systems as one sees fit.

In typical Valve fashion, the announcement had no build up or redundant teasers. They just revealed it. That’s refreshing.

Oh, and one definite plus is that it doesn’t have Joy Cons.
